Matt Clayton, Founder and Director

Every job makes us proud for different reasons. Sometimes it’s the complexity, solving something tricky that others walked away from. Sometimes it’s the finishes, when the detail is spot on. And sometimes it’s simply making a real difference to someone’s life or the way they use their space.

Most of our work comes from recommendations and repeat clients, and we’d like to keep it that way. That means making sure the job runs properly. We handle the contracts, compliance and clients, line up the right trades, and stay across the site so nothing slips.

One team, start to finish

When you work with Claymill, you deal with the same team the whole way through. One point of contact, every trade managed, and no chasing someone new each week.

Matt Clayton started Claymill three years ago, after 30 years in construction. The team he’s built works the same way he does: manage the job properly, keep you in the loop, and finish what we start.

We work across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast, plus remote and rural projects.

Founder and Director

I started Claymill three years ago, after 30 years in construction. I began making roof trusses, then designing them, and worked my way through procurement, estimating, project management and general management. That means I understand a job from the frame up and the numbers down. We use a small group of trades we trust, we don’t squeeze their prices, and that’s why they turn up and do it right.

Outside work: usually running my boys to sport, or tinkering with the caravan on the odd weekend we actually get away.

Clare Matthews

Contract Administrator

I started out as a primary school teacher in the UK before moving into construction, and I’ve now been in the industry 10 years, the last 12 months with Claymill. I love the “meaty” jobs, the ones that take real forward thinking and planning before anyone picks up a tool. Behind every smooth job is a lot of organisation. I take care of all of that in the background, so your experience is simple and stress-free.

Outside work: time with my family and dogs. Walks, beaches, picnics, anything outdoors that ends with a glass of bubbles!

Ben Roberts

Carpenter

I came into the building industry after leaving the military, and I’m now a Level 3 carpenter. I started with our sister company MMS in January and moved across to Claymill in July. Every day is different, from residential properties to big commercial venues. Recently I worked on a big project in the city, building walls out of metal and shaping arches to create a unique finish. I work to strict time frames and work hard to get jobs across the line, on time and within budget.

Outside work: playing golf, and keeping active with running and hiking.

Rob Matthews

Construction Manager

I ran my own construction business in the UK before making the move to Australia two years ago. My knowledge spans every stage of a build, but where I really come into my own is in the detail: the finishes, the tolerances and the small decisions that separate a good job from a great one. As Claymill grows, I’m working alongside Matt to build a delivery team that reflects our values: care, craftsmanship and getting it right the first time. I like working for a business that cares about the detail as much as I do.

Outside work: camping, visiting new places, rock climbing and the odd brewery.
